Close Family {Round Lake Beach IL, Family Photographer}

Do you have family that live close by or far away?  Do you visit your relatives by car, plane, or boat?  Do you see everyone daily, monthly or annually?

I’m pretty lucky with having a majority of my family close by, with the exception of a few that live a bit farther away.  My Aunt, Uncle and cousins are one of these families…they live just over the state line in Minnesota.  Last weekend we were all together for another family member’s wedding.  It’s always so fun to see how much everyone has grown and what is going on in each other’s lives; braces, karate, driving licenses, and school fun.

It’s great to realize that with family, it really doesn’t matter how far or close they live from you…family is always close by.

Beautiful Ugly {May Blog Circle}

This month for my blog circle the theme is “Beautiful Ugly”.  Have you ever looked at something and just couldn’t get over the fact of how ugly it was?  Maybe it’s a pillow from your grandma’s couch, the drapes or carpet from your bedroom growing up, or maybe the hair style you thought was styling when you were in 7th grade?  Whatever it is, there is a beautiful side to it…it just depends how you look at it.

The husband and I are currently remodeling our home so a few rooms / areas are not looking quite picture perfect.  🙂  This is a light in our downstairs bathroom.  A simple light bulb sticking out of the wall with drywall mud all around it.

Follow the circle onto Dina’s interpretation of “Beautiful Ugly”!

I grew up in a small town very different from the Chicago suburbs I now call home.  It was an area were you could sit outside and enjoy the peace and quite of the land surrounding you and not hear cars humming or horns honking.  I loved knowing that the closest mall was 30 minutes away and that you could tell who was outside based on kids laughter.  Visiting Mandy and Nick last week brought back all those memories to me.  They live in a cute little area that was perfect for their maternity shoot before their little one arrives in July.  I loved that in addition to the peaceful home these two share they also view their puppy as their “first” born.  She was such a pleasant addition to the session and kept us all on our toes with her curiosity and fearlessness.  I have a feeling this puppy will be the perfect guardian for the little baby.

Brian & Kelly Family {Vernon Hills IL, Family Photographer}

I love surprises; how about you?  My husband isn’t always in for surprises but I’m working on him.  I figure when kids come along so will all the fun family surprises.  Right before Mother’s Day this little family contacted me about doing a surprise photo shoot for some Mother’s Day gifts.  I couldn’t resist this cute bunch, can you?  We were lucky enough to have the rain stop and the sun come out in the Chicagoland area for a Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago.  Spending an afternoon with this family taught me a few things.

1. Bubbles always make things more fun.

2. Having a sister is quite awesome.

3. Give kids an open field and they will run off energy you can only wish you had 30 years their senior.

4. Family photography is such a joy.

Shooting Pictures Through Glass {April Blog Circle}

I am part of a blog circle, a group of other photographers who go out and shoot based on a theme each month.  We then post our photos with links to allow our readers to travel across all our blogs and see how we each individually tackled the given theme for the month.  In April, our theme was shooting through glass.

With the start of spring I’ve been stuck inside for the past few weeks due to the constant rain that slammed the Chicago area.  During one of those rain days I grabbed my camera and started to shoot.  I love a good thunderstorm, so long as I’m inside and have no reason to travel outside during the downpour.  The calming noise of the rain and the grumble of the thunder make me want to change into my sweat pants, put on a romantic comedy (You’ve Got Mail is my all time FAVORITE movie), make some popcorn, and cuddle up with my hubby on the couch.  I remember growing up believing that the thunder was people in heaven bowling and that lightening meant they got a strike.  Have you ever heard that?

How do you feel about thunderstorms?  Are you a fan?

Be sure to travel along the circle and check out Lisa’s post!
