Brian & Kelly Family {Vernon Hills IL, Family Photographer}

I love surprises; how about you?  My husband isn’t always in for surprises but I’m working on him.  I figure when kids come along so will all the fun family surprises.  Right before Mother’s Day this little family contacted me about doing a surprise photo shoot for some Mother’s Day gifts.  I couldn’t resist this cute bunch, can you?  We were lucky enough to have the rain stop and the sun come out in the Chicagoland area for a Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago.  Spending an afternoon with this family taught me a few things.

1. Bubbles always make things more fun.

2. Having a sister is quite awesome.

3. Give kids an open field and they will run off energy you can only wish you had 30 years their senior.

4. Family photography is such a joy.

Shooting Pictures Through Glass {April Blog Circle}

I am part of a blog circle, a group of other photographers who go out and shoot based on a theme each month.  We then post our photos with links to allow our readers to travel across all our blogs and see how we each individually tackled the given theme for the month.  In April, our theme was shooting through glass.

With the start of spring I’ve been stuck inside for the past few weeks due to the constant rain that slammed the Chicago area.  During one of those rain days I grabbed my camera and started to shoot.  I love a good thunderstorm, so long as I’m inside and have no reason to travel outside during the downpour.  The calming noise of the rain and the grumble of the thunder make me want to change into my sweat pants, put on a romantic comedy (You’ve Got Mail is my all time FAVORITE movie), make some popcorn, and cuddle up with my hubby on the couch.  I remember growing up believing that the thunder was people in heaven bowling and that lightening meant they got a strike.  Have you ever heard that?

How do you feel about thunderstorms?  Are you a fan?

Be sure to travel along the circle and check out Lisa’s post!

Block Party!

Do you remember neighborhood block parties?  I remember when I was growing up we had an annual party in the summer that just so happened to be right in-front of my best friend’s house.  It was the time to meet new neighbors, hangout with friends, dance around, and eat great food.  It was also one of the few times my parents let me stay up past my bed time.

Block parties are a great way to meet your neighbors, new and old.

This Saturday from 10am -3pm will be the 3rd annual GLMV Chamber of Commerce block party at the Libertyville Sports Complex!  It will be just like a summer block party… food, dancing, friends, fun, and the best part is that it’s FREE.  Why would you miss this?  There will be over 100 vendors from Gurnee all the way down through Mundelein present.  Did I mention there will be free food?!?!  At noon there will be a live reptile show for all the “kids”.

What a great way to support your community by coming out and meeting local vendors.  I have a feeling this will be the place to be on Saturday.  I know I’ll be there!

Stop by my booth to say “HI” and to find out about the special block party offer!

Big Baby Blue Eyes {Gurnee IL Family Photographer}

A little while ago I got the chance to hang out with an adorable little man (besides my husband).  Little A at the time was just 6 months old and the happiest little guy I’ve ever met.  Right away when I walked into the house I was greeted by Dad holding Little A like a football and I remember the wide toothless grin he had on his face.  That smile could melt any scrooges heart!  I have a feeling his parents are definitely going to have trouble saying “No” to that little face in the near future.

Not once during the session did Little A cry or get upset…he was a pure angel.  I would like to think that he was so good because my assistant was making the best funny faces and crazy noises EVER but I have a feeling it was because of the joy this little guy had towards everything new and exciting.  There is also the tiny fact that his parents are quite possibly the cutest parents you’ll ever meet.  I can see them being on the cover of Parent magazine discussing the latest baby trend or doing an interview with Babble.com to discuss how best to handle your toddler.  I plan to have their number on speed dial once my husband and I have kids.  (Aaron and Mel, you have been warned.)

One thing you can’t deny, this little boy’s baby blue eyes are going to break some young girls hearts in the future!  So parents with little girls be warned…there is a little hottie out in Gurnee.

Racine Wisconsin Child Photographer Rain

Rain, Rain, Go AWAY…Little Addi wants to play!  Doesn’t this little girl just look adorable in her rain gear for her rainy day photo session?  Wisconsin has been getting poured with lots of rain lately and this little girl sure doesn’t seem to mind at all!  I wish they made rain gear this stylish for adults.  My plain black umbrella and blue raincoat have nothing on Little Addi’s matching boots, umbrella and coat!  One thing is for sure…Little Addi is definitely prepared for a few puddles.
