The Four P’s {Lake County IL, Newborn Photographer}

A common question I get asked when a potential client inquires about my services is “Why should we pick you?” My response always covers the following four “P’s”.

  1. Portfolio.  Every photographer has their own style.  Some photographers capture very posed and polished looking photos while some capture more lifestyle and candid photos.  You need to figure out what style you like and select a photographer that shows similar photos. It’s very often that a posed / polished photographer can’t capture lifestyle / candid photos and vice versa.  Just think of it this way…would you go to a steak house and order sushi?  Not very likely.  Take some time and really look at each potential photographer’s portfolio…you’ll resulting images will be worth it!

  2. Personality. Every photographer is unique, just like every family is unique.  Be nosey and checkout the personal side of your potential photographers.  Do they share tons of photos from their night life and you prefer to stay inside? Maybe you aren’t a good match.  Do they talk about their crazy two year old’s latest temper tantrum and you can relate? Maybe you are a match.  What about giving your photographers a phone call? You can tell a lot about a person by how they carry a conversation…do they make you feel at ease, do they answer your questions clearly, do they inquire about you and your wants.  Be picky…feeling relaxed at your session will show in your photos!

  3. Products. What do you want to get out of your photo session?  Do you envision a large canvas above the fire place or are you looking to get a family heirloom album for your children to look back upon years down the road? Some photographers provide just digital images and leave the printing up to you, while others provide prints ready to be placed on your walls. Having some idea of what you want to do with the photos will help guide your photo session to meet those expectations.  For example, if you want an album, it’s common for photographers to capture the tiny details that add character to your story, while conversely; if you are looking for just a large statement piece the details won’t be as important to photograph.

  4. Price. I purposefully put this one last.  I know…I know…everyone has a budget but let me push you a little and just say “You get what you pay for”. Photography isn’t always cheap and when you think about all the time and effort a quality photographer will invest in your session you can understand the associated value. I’m not going to give you a lecture on all the time a photographer puts into a session, but rather present you with the thought that sometimes quality is worth the higher price point.  If budgets are tight, some photographers are willing to do payment plans or even custom packages to meet in the middle. But let me ask you this, would you go into a restaurant and negotiate a deal on dinner? Not very likely, so don’t expect photographers to give you a huge deal on their services / products.

There are so many photographers in your local area that I’m confident you will find the one that fits you perfectly.  Think of your search as if you are hunting for gold…the result will be worth it!

Summer Lovin’ {Lake County IL, Maternity Photographer}

Memorial Day weekend is the kickoff to summer, and living in the Midwest we are continuously rolling the dice with warm days and cold days. This day though was perfect for Heather and Dave. The temperature was spot on, no heavy winds, and beautiful sunlight. I picked this specific location because it gave us the option to play in the water without being in Lake Michigan and provide a perfect Lake County feel to the maternity photos. We met early on Saturday morning to beat the cookout crowds and enjoy some quite moments before everyone’s weekend festivities would begin. I thought we would be the first ones at the park, but I couldn’t believe how early some people must like starting their Memorial weekend parties.

I love meeting first time parents-to-be. I get so excited thinking about the amazing time they are soon to experience that will change their lives forever. I also love seeing how cozy and loving parents-to-be are with each other. Heather and Dave were no exception and I could tell right away that these two were going to be adorable. They had zero problems cozying up to one another and they were open to getting a little wet. The results are purely beautiful memories before their little one arrives!

Cute As A Button Bump {Lake County IL, Maternity Photographer}

Be forewarned you are about to experience super little bump cuteness!

This couple was too much to handle during our session together…trust me, you’ll understand when you see how cute they are…and I had such a hard time picking a few photos from their session to share with you!  Not only are they adorable and sweet but they are also fur parents! They have two cute little cats that made sure to get in on the photo action during our time together.

I loved how mom picked out the perfect colors for her photos. Does she not look so adorable in everything she put on?!?!  Dad was also so cute…he would gently touch Mom’s little bump during the session…the sweet little touches that make you just go “Awe” but not in the cheesy way at all…in the super cute, he is going to be a great dad way.

I just got news that their little one arrived and I can’t wait to meet their newest addition!

Time for your cuteness overload!

2014 Review {Lake County IL, Newborn Photographer}

I am beyond blessed…this little dream of mine is growing every day! I have met so many amazing families this past year that at times I feel like I have to pinch myself. As I sit and look back at 2014 I am in awe of the moments I have captured for families and the trust that you have given to me in capturing these moments.  I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for me and you!  I can’t wait to watch all of my little babies grow up and meet all the new little ones waiting to arrive.  I can’t wait to watch couples start their lives together and families celebrate milestones.
From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! You have made 2014 an amazing year!

Becoming 4 {Lake County IL, Maternity Photographer}

Being a mom myself to two fur babies, it always makes my heart melt when couples include their fur babies in their photo session with their soon to be first little baby.  Fur babies are a big part of the family and can’t be forgotten with the crazy happenings of new additions. This pup was a pure doll during our time together.  I can’t wait to see him with his little sibling…I’m sure it will be love and protection at first sight.  Mom and Dad were such great troopers during our time together.  Midwest, sunset, summer is a bad mixture for mosquitoes.  But you have to admit this location is worth it.  I think it’s safe to even say that this location is my favorite spot ever!

Take a peek at our time together.
